A Mind Already Made

Pin me to the wall
Stretch me higher with your cords
Cast down your judgement upon me
And yet my feet will still touch the floor

Perhaps too late I did ask
Perhaps too late I decided to stand tall
Perhaps too late…but you never asked me at all

Noise so loud against broken ear drums
I could scream and silence would still fall from my lips to your ears
Choking me with excuses and ridicule
But the air you won’t ever have from my lungs
My eyes still only hold snark in your memories
I could blind you with light
You would still choose to bathe in the shadows of disdain

Perhaps too late I did ask
Perhaps too late I decided to stand tall
Perhaps too late…but you never asked me at all

Assumptions clear
Mind has been made
“Where did I fail?” is the haunting question you will beg

And I will smile
Pursed lips and kind eyes
You need not war, so I bestow upon you peace
“You never asked me” I shall reply
“You never let me calm your mind.”

With every thought, around every turn
My opinion of you was made by you
I had no hand in our battle yet the sword I held
Marks upon your flesh were left, I hardly knew until they already bled
You saw a fate destined, written in permanent marker
but here I was wielding chalk
Unknown that I was the author

Perhaps too late I did ask
Perhaps too late I decided to stand tall
Perhaps too late…but you never asked me at all
